Description of "Teacher Training in Democracy Education"
e-Democracy: EDUCATION IN DEMOCRACY’S NAME (E.De.N.)
Welcome to the e-Democracy: Education in Democracy’s Name Summer School, offered by the Hellenic Parliament, as part of the Open Discovery Space 2014 Summer Academy. The 5-day teacher training course will take place between July 21th and 26th, in Athens Greece.
In a modern European country, teaching democratic behavior, participation and tolerance to Early Years pupils has been a task of increased priority. Young learners need to grasp the fundamental aspects of a functioning democracy through innovative approaches and the use of appropriate digital material from an early age.
Topics will include rights, responsibilities, laws and the functioning of various national parliaments. The 2014 e-Democracy Summer School aims at interested teachers and educators of the following subjects: Civics, History, Home Economics, Language, Health Education, as well as teachers of other related fields.
The course offers sessions and workshops in the fields of Modern Approaches to Democracy, Laws and Responsibilities, Democracy and its Enemies, a Vocabulary of Democratic Terms (in various languages and contexts), Racism and Interculturalism, Building Teacher, Student and Parental Communities, both online and real-life. There will be an emphasis on the use of digital content and the role of communities of teachers, parents, experts and stakeholders.
